Thomas Franks were already certified to ISO 14001. However, the existing system was not working in practice. It lacked clarity, and wasn’t being used consistently, which meant it was not supporting the business in a meaningful way.

At the same time, they were looking to achieve ISO 9001 certification and needed a more structured, joined-up approach.

The challenge was twofold:

• To rebuild and simplify the existing ISO 14001 system so it actually worked day-to-day
• To introduce ISO 9001 in a way that aligned with the business, without adding unnecessary complexity

It was important that the end result felt practical and usable, and that it genuinely supported how the business operates, not just a smart certificate maintained for audit purposes.

Rather than layering new requirements on top of an ineffective system, we took a step back and streamlined the existing ISO 14001 framework, simplifying it and making it more relevant.

Alongside this, we introduced ISO 9001 in a structured way, ensuring both standards worked together as a single, integrated system.

The certifications now enjoy greater engagement and understanding across the business, with the benefits fully understood.

The system is now embedded, usable, and positioned to support ongoing growth and continual improvement, rather than something that is revisited only when an audit is due.

We continue to work closely with Thomas Franks to maintain and develop their integrated management system, ensuring it remains effective and aligned with the business as it evolves.

Following this, we are now supporting them on their journey towards ISO 45001, building on the strong foundations already in place.
